So many new parents tell us they have everything for the nursery but no idea which toys a tiny baby actually needs. This set takes the guesswork out. Three soft, light toys cover the first things a baby does with their body: moving, holding and looking. It is also one of the most thoughtful gifts you can bring to a baby shower, because every piece gets used.

Wrist Rattles & Foot Finder Socks

A set of four: two wrist rattles and two foot finder socks, made mainly from polyester fibre in soft fabric with bright colours and bold patterns. The rattles sound with your baby’s natural movements, so they can play long before they can hold anything. The wrist rattles fasten securely around the wrists, while the socks keep playful animal faces close to kicking feet.

Soft Plush Rattle Ball

A soft, light plush ball with a rattle inside that sounds as it is shaken or moved, and colourful ribbon tabs with different textures to touch and grasp. Its round shape is easy for small hands to hold, and it is finished with an embroidered fox and car design in bright, contrasting colours. Made mainly from polyester fibre.

Cloth Book

A soft cloth book with pages that are easy for little hands to hold and turn, illustrated in high contrast black, white and grey with bright red accents. A raised plush animal sits on the front cover, with textured fins, tails, ears and fabric shapes to explore, and animal pictures and names inside. A flexible red ring makes it easy to hang, and it is small and light enough to live in the nappy bag.

All three are designed for supervised, awake play.

Nothing in this set is machine washable. The book can be gently washed by hand; the rattles, socks and ball are surface clean only.

Wrist Rattles & Foot Finder Socks: surface cleaning

Wipe with a soft, damp cloth using clean water or a mild neutral detergent, and dry thoroughly before using or storing again. Do not soak or machine wash.

Soft Plush Rattle Ball: surface cleaning only

• Gently wipe surface marks with a soft, damp cloth
• Do not soak the toy in water
• Do not use bleach or harsh cleaning agents
• Do not expose it to direct sunlight, as this may cause fading or shape distortion
• Allow it to dry completely before using or storing it again

Cloth Book: hand wash only

• Do not machine wash
• Wash gently by hand using warm water
• Use only a mild detergent made for babies
• Do not use bleach
• Gently squeeze out excess water, and do not twist or wring the book
• Lay it flat to dry in a cool, shaded area, away from direct sunlight
• Allow it to dry completely before use or storage to help prevent mould

Storage

Store the set in a cool, dry and dark place, away from high temperatures, moisture and humidity, fire and other heat sources, and corrosive substances. Improper storage may damage or deform the pieces.

Wrist Rattles & Foot Finder Socks

• Check the set. Inspect every wrist rattle and sock before play.
• Put them on comfortably. Fasten the wrist rattles securely without making them tight, and place the socks fully over your baby’s feet.
• Let movement create the sound. Place your baby on a clean play mat during awake time and let them kick, wave, reach and notice the sounds.
• Join the moment. Smile, talk and name what your baby is doing, pausing to respond to their sounds and movements.
• Remove after play. Take the rattles and socks off when the play session ends.

Soft Plush Rattle Ball

Place the ball within your baby’s reach during supervised floor play or tummy time. Gently shake it to introduce the rattle sound, then allow your baby to reach for the ball, feel the plush surface and explore the different ribbon tabs.

Cloth Book

Lay the book closed or partly opened on a clean, firm play mat during supervised, awake play. For younger babies, hold it within view and slowly move it from one side to the other, pointing to the bold pictures, gently moving the raised fabric pieces and talking about the animals.

During tummy time, open the book and place it slightly in front of your baby, positioning different pages toward the left and right to encourage looking, head turning and reaching in both directions. As your baby’s grasp improves, encourage them to hold the soft pages, reach for the raised animals and fabric shapes, explore the different textures, open and close the book, turn the pages, and point to animals while you name them.

The red ring should only be attached to a secure point approved by the product and equipment manufacturers. Keep the book away from straps and harnesses, and remove it from any cot or sleep space before sleep.

Mysa Baby SA recommendation: Suitable from birth, with the strongest play stage at roughly 2 to 8 months. The wrist rattles and socks suit about 2 to 6 months, the rattle ball about 3 to 12 months, and the cloth book about 0 to 12 months, staying useful to around 18 months for turning pages, pointing and naming animals.

These windows are practical play guides, not a replacement for the manufacturer’s 0+ guidance. Babies develop at different rates.

0 to 2 months: looking and listening

Hold the book where your baby can comfortably see it and slowly move it from side to side; the bold black, white and red details suit simple looking games that you lead. Gently shake the ball nearby so they can listen. By around two months, many babies look at a toy for several seconds.

2 to 4 months: kicks, waves and tummy time interest

This is where the wrist rattles and socks come into their own, because your baby’s own kicking and waving makes the sound. Place the opened book slightly in front of your baby during short, supervised tummy time sessions. By around four months, many babies begin swinging their arms toward toys and holding a toy placed in their hand.

4 to 6 months: reaching and grasping

Let your baby touch the soft pages, hold the fabric details and reach toward the ball and its ribbon tabs. Reaching to grab a wanted toy commonly appears around six months.

6 to 12 months: active exploration

Babies may hold the book with both hands, explore the raised animal pieces, move through the soft pages, and hold, shake and roll the ball more independently.

Safety information

Adult supervision is required throughout play, and every piece is for awake play only.

Before every use, check for torn or damaged fabric, loose stitching, loose or missing parts, exposed filling, a loose internal rattle, damaged wrist fastenings, and stretching or damage that affects the fit. Also inspect the ball’s seams and ribbon tabs, and the book’s seams, attachment ring and fabric pieces. Stop using a piece immediately if it is damaged or if any part becomes loose.

• Make sure the wrist rattles and socks fit comfortably and are not tight, and remove them if they leave marks or appear uncomfortable.
• Use the wrist rattles and socks only on the wrists and feet as intended.
• Make sure the red ring is attached securely and that the book does not obstruct your child’s face, movement or safety harness.
• Remove all pieces before sleep, and never place them loose in a cot, bassinet or other sleep space.
• Keep the set away from fire and high heat.
