Plush Hand-Grip Rattle

There is a lovely moment when your baby realises they can make a sound all by themselves. The trouble is, many rattles are hard plastic, heavy or too thick for a tiny hand to hold. This plush animal rattle was made for that first grab. The long, textured handle is easy for small hands to catch hold of, which makes it a proper first rattle your baby can hold on their own.

Shake it and the rattle inside answers back. Squeeze the soft bottom and there is a second, different sound. Fabric loops, ribbons and contrasting textures run along it, with an attached textured shape for extra exploring, and the bright colours and mixed patterns make it easy for your baby to spot.

It is soft and light, so it slips into the nappy bag for outings. Available in several animal character designs.

Place the toy in your baby's hands, or hold it within easy reach during supervised, awake play. Shake it gently to introduce the rattle sound, then encourage your baby to:

• Reach for and grasp the soft handle
• Shake it and hear the sound answer back
• Squeeze the soft bottom
• Feel the plush head and the textured surfaces
• Move it from one hand to the other as coordination develops

For younger babies, move the toy slowly from side to side for them to watch and follow. As they grow, let them explore it more independently during floor play, tummy time or supported sitting.

Birth to 3 months: Watch and listen

Hold the rattle yourself and move it slowly within your baby's view, shaking it gently so they can find the sound. By around two months, many babies can look at a toy for several seconds.

3 to 6 months: Grasp and shake

Place the handle into your baby's palm and let them take hold. Around four months, many babies can hold a toy placed in their hand and swing an arm towards toys.

6 to 9 months: Strongest play stage

Your baby can shake the rattle on purpose, squeeze the soft bottom, explore the textures and pass the toy between their hands.

9 to 18 months: Confident handling

Your baby may hold it firmly, wave it deliberately and enjoy the different sounds, although interest will vary from child to child.

Adult supervision is required throughout play, and the toy is for awake play only.

Before every use, check that the seams, stitching, handle, ribbons, fabric loops and attached pieces are intact and securely connected. Do not use the toy if any part becomes loose, torn or damaged, or if the filling becomes exposed.
