  • Do not use rough materials or strong cleaning agents
  • Do not soak or immerse the toy in water
  • Allow it to dry completely before use or storage
  • Make sure the toy is clean before giving it to your child

Storage

Store the caterpillar in a dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight, damp conditions, fire and heat sources.

Avoid severe impacts or drops, as these may damage the internal music, rattle or mechanical components.

How to play

Place the caterpillar on a clean floor or play mat during supervised, awake play. Press the head to activate the music, squeeze the different body sections and gently move the toy to introduce its crinkle, squeaking and rattling sounds.

Let your baby touch the different fabrics, reach for the colourful legs and explore each textured segment. As coordination develops, encourage them to pat, squeeze and move along the caterpillar from one section to the next.

Using it during tummy time

Position the caterpillar slightly in front of your baby, close enough to see but just beyond easy reach. Its long, colourful body and varied sounds can encourage your baby to:

  • Lift and turn their head to look along the toy
  • Reach toward the legs and textured sections
  • Shift their weight while trying to touch different parts
  • Stay interested in short tummy-time sessions

Move the caterpillar from one side to the other slowly to encourage looking and reaching in both directions. Begin with short sessions and stop when your baby becomes tired or unsettled. Always use it on a firm floor-level surface, never inside a cot or other sleep space.

Safety & Age

Clearer age guide

Manufacturer age guidance: 0+

Best suited for: Approximately 3–12 months

Strongest play stage: Approximately 4–9 months

Extended use: Some children may still enjoy it up to around 18 months.

0–3 months — caregiver-led play: Place the caterpillar in front of your baby during short, supervised tummy-time sessions. Gently activate the sounds and move it slowly from side to side for looking and listening. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends tummy time only while babies are awake and supervised.

3–5 months — batting and early grasping: Your baby may begin reaching toward the colourful legs, touching the different fabrics and holding a section when it is placed in their hand. By around four months, many babies hold a placed toy, swing their arms toward toys and push onto their forearms during tummy time.

5–9 months — strongest play stage: Babies can more intentionally reach, grab, squeeze and explore the different sections. The music, crinkle, squeaker and rattle give them different responses to discover. Reaching for wanted toys and pushing up with straighter arms during tummy time are common around six months.

9–12 months — active floor play: Your baby may move along the caterpillar, press different sections, transfer parts between their hands and reach for it while sitting or beginning to move across the floor.

12–18 months — extended sensory play: It can remain useful for pressing, squeezing, listening and pointing at the different colours and textures, although interest will vary by child.
