If you have ever read a board book to a baby who only wanted to chew it, you will love this one. It is made to be touched, crinkled and mouthed, so your baby can explore it their way while you read.

A raised plush character on the front cover gives little hands something to grab straight away. Inside, textured fabric pieces and shaped tabs invite touching and holding, crinkle paper rustles with every page, and a mirror page and a squeaker give two more surprises to find. The soft pages are easy for small hands to turn, and every page has a bright animal with its name printed beside it, so even on tired days you have something easy to say.

It is soft and light, so it slips into the nappy bag for the clinic waiting room or a visit to friends, and a hanging loop lets you attach it to the pram. Choose from two designs: Sea Animals or Insect.

Open the book together and let your baby:

During tummy time, prop the book open slightly in front of your baby so they have a reason to lift their head. For younger babies, hold it within view and turn the pages slowly yourself, naming what you see as you go.

Birth to 3 months: Play led by you

Hold the book within your baby's view, turn the pages slowly and introduce the colours, animals, soft textures and gentle sounds. It can also sit nearby during short periods of supervised, awake tummy time.

3 to 6 months: Looking, reaching and touching

Your baby may begin batting at the plush animal, holding the book when it is placed in their hands and looking into the mirror page. Holding a toy, swinging towards toys and pushing up on the forearms commonly emerge around four months.

6 to 9 months: Strongest sensory exploration

Your baby can reach for the book, grasp the fabric tags, squeeze the plush animal, crinkle the pages and pass parts between their hands. Reaching for wanted toys is a common milestone at six months, and moving objects between hands is common by around nine months.

9 to 12 months: More independent book play

Your baby may sit with the book, turn the soft pages, search for favourite pictures and interact more deliberately with the squeaker, mirror and attached textures.

12 to 18 months: Early learning together

The book stays useful for pointing to animals, naming pictures, copying sounds and practising how to handle and turn a book. By around 15 months, many children begin using familiar objects such as books the way they are meant to be used.

Adult supervision is required throughout play, and the book is for awake play only.

Before every use, check that the stitching, pages, hanging loop and attached fabric pieces are intact and securely connected. Stop using it if any section becomes loose, torn or damaged.

Use the book only for its intended purpose of reading and sensory play and within the age range shown on the manufacturer's packaging. Attach the hanging loop only to a secure and suitable point, keep it away from straps and harnesses, and remove it from a cot or sleep space before every sleep. No assembly is needed. Keep the instruction sheet for future reference.
