If you have ever walked back down the road looking for a toy that fell off the pram, you will appreciate this one. Instead of clipping on, this soft spiral twists around a compatible bar or handle and stays where you put it, whether that is the pram or the play gym arch.

Colourful high contrast patterns run along its length, with several sensory pieces hanging down at once. Soft animal characters and mixed fabric textures add variety, and depending on the design you may find a squeaker, crinkle fabric, a gentle jingle, a textured ring or a play mirror made for children. Because each piece responds differently, your baby starts to notice that their own movement is what makes something happen, and they keep going back to try again.

Wrap the spiral securely around a compatible bar or handle and position the hanging pieces so they stay visible and within comfortable reach. Encourage your baby to:

• Look at the contrasting colours and patterns
• Reach for the hanging characters
• Feel the different fabrics and textures
• Pull or hold the textured ring
• Squeeze the soft noisy pieces
• Look into the play mirror

Remove the toy before sleep and do not leave it attached inside an unattended sleep space.

Mysa Baby SA recommendation: Best suited from birth to around 9 months, with the strongest play stage at roughly 2 to 7 months.

Birth to 3 months: Watch and listen

Wrap the toy securely where your baby can see it but cannot pull it onto their face. Move it gently so they can watch the shapes and hear the soft sounds. By around two months, many babies look at a toy for several seconds.

3 to 6 months: Bat, touch and hold

Place the hanging pieces close enough for your baby to bat at during supervised, awake play. Around four months, many babies begin swinging an arm towards toys and holding a toy placed in their hand.

6 to 9 months: Reach, pull and explore

Your baby may begin grasping the hanging pieces more firmly, moving them and exploring the different textures. Reaching to grab a wanted toy is a common milestone at six months.

From 9 months

Your baby may still enjoy the toy during supervised play, but check the attachment carefully because older babies pull with more force. Stop using it as a hanging toy once they can pull it down, become tangled in it or place the spiral around their body.

Development differs between babies, so treat this as a practical guide rather than a strict cutoff.
