Manufacturer guidance: 0+ months

Mysa Baby SA recommendation: Suitable from birth and best suited from about 2–10 months. It may remain enjoyable after 10 months as a supervised hand-held toy.

The manufacturer’s 0+ guidance means it can be introduced from birth. It does not mean a newborn will use every feature straight away.

Birth to 3 months — Look and listen

An adult can hold or gently move the toy where baby can see it. At this stage, baby will mainly look at the animal, notice the colours and listen to the soft bell or crinkle sounds. By around two months, many babies can look at a toy for several seconds.

Keep the toy out of baby’s face and do not expect them to hold it yet.

3 to 6 months — Bat and begin to hold

Hang it securely from a suitable play gym or stroller bar so the toy is close enough to touch but cannot fall onto baby. Baby may begin batting at the toy, holding the rings and bringing safe parts towards their mouth. At around four months, many babies can hold a toy placed in their hand and swing an arm towards toys.

6 to 10 months — Grasp, shake and explore

This is likely to be the strongest play stage. Baby can hold the animal, shake the bell, squeeze the crinkle sections and explore the teether and different textures. By around six months, many babies reach for toys they want and explore objects with their mouths.

From about 10 months

Baby may still enjoy it as a soft hand-held activity toy. However, older babies can pull more strongly, so check the hanging loop and all attached pieces carefully. Stop hanging it once baby can pull it down or become caught in it.

Development differs from baby to baby, so this should be treated as a practical guide rather than a strict cut-off.

Important safety wording

For supervised, awake play only. Check all seams, rings, teethers, ribbons and hanging parts before every use. Stop using the toy if any part becomes loose, torn or damaged.

Keep these points in the product information:

• Attach the loop only to a secure and suitable point.
